TROY, N.C. ? A food processing plant in Montgomery County is expanding, creating more than 500 new jobs.

Raleigh-based Wright Foods opened more than a year ago in the town of Troy with just a few dozen employees. It now employs 80 people.

It opened the operation in an unused chicken-processing plant.

The company started in 2006 using a packaging process that allows foods like sauces, tomatoes and desserts to last longer.
