Poland soccer teams issue ?tornado? warning

A tornado warning means something different at Poland Central School.
Here, the warning is all about soccer.
Poland students clad in orange and blue lined the hallways and gathered in front of the school Friday to cheer on the Poland Tornadoes and send off the boys? and girls? varsity soccer teams to their Class D state final four games on Saturday.
On two occasions Friday morning, a fake weather advisory was issued on repeat over the school?s speaker system as the boys? and then girls? teams left school early to travel to the games.
?The National Weather Service in Albany has issued a tornado warning for all of New York state,? the announcement said, before stating the Tornadoes are on their way to the communities where the games are taking place. ?This line of storms has left behind a path of destruction.?
The Poland boys? soccer team plays Chazy at 12:30 p.m. Saturday in Middletown, and the girls? soccer team plays Jasper-Troupsburg at 2:30 p.m. Saturday in Homer. The winners of Saturday?s semifinal games will play on Sunday for the boys? and girls? Class D state championships.
When the soccer players prepared to leave, elementary students lined up in the hallway with signs in their hands and yelled various cheers such as ?Let?s go, Poland? and ?We are proud of you.? The tornado warning played on repeat ? with sirens occasionally going off as well.
Outside, in front of the school, older students gathered to cheer on their classmates, as the team buses pulled away with fire trucks escorting them.
As the fake weather advisory continued to play, it noted the tornado warning remains in effect until Sunday, which is when the championship games will be played.
